When you think of Wisconsin, you usually think of the following:
-beer
-brats
-cows
-cheese
-Packers
Right?
Well, I am here today to tell you what REALLY goes on in Wisconsin.
1) Between the months of May and September, NO MAN over the age of 3 wears a shirt. From 3 to 133, shirts are totes not allowed if its hot outside.
2) When you cook outside on a grill or fire pit, its not called a barbeque. It's called a "cook out". And everyone and their dog has a cookout in their yard for just about every meal.
3) Everyone and their dog has a dog.
4) You don't realize that everyone has a dog until it is warm outside again.
5) You can't have a phobia of bugs if you live here during the summer. They WILL fly into your face, your mouth, your nose, your eyes, your hair, down your shirt, ect. ALL DAY AND NIGHT, and there is nothing you can do about it.
6) Brats, custard, and cheese curds REALLY are the best things on the planet.
I can't think of anything else behind the scenes for right now, but I definitely will come up with more.
9 days inbetween P-days is rouuuggghhhhh. But. We did it.
I literally cannot even begin to tell you all what as happened. It feels like a month has passed, yet I swear I just blinked.
Deidre's worked got robbed last saturday night and she had to talk to cops all day sunday, so she wasnt able to come to church, so we had to push her baptism to THIS Saturday. So keep her in your prayers(:
We had SO many friends at church this week! We saved a row and then used another full row to fit all of our friends. Some were less actives (Bro&Sis Gardner, Karen and Mark, Kristy, ect) and others were investigators. (Aja, Deidre, and Nancy). It was a party. And gospel principles was awesome because Nancy was talking about how she has to stop smoking to get baptized and there were like 4 people that were like, "I did it!" and it was awesome.
Aja is my new BFF. She is from Chicago and grew up Muslim and is searching for the truth about Jesus Christ. She referred herself to us on mormon.org. She has overcome a lot and she has a desire to change and do all she can in this life to return to Heavenly Father. She officially adopted me into the black community. We are "sisters from different misters". Shes hilarious. She also watches her cousins kids and Aedn is the CUTEST little black baby with a 'fro ever. And he LOVES me. He literally cries and tries to fling himself to me because he wants me to hold him and it breaks my heart because I cant.
I had a flood of revelation and decided to get more involved with the YSA scene in the ward. Deidre is 20 and needs friends in the ward and there is a recent convert named Jacob who is 19 and yet no one really knows each other. So, in typical Ciarra fashion, I planned a YSA game night and we had a blast and had members and investigators and recent converts and less actives there and it was the best. We're taking it and running with it.
Oh! I epic-ly crashed my bike last weekend. Like, I totalled by bike a little bit. It took a new rim and tire and brakes and lots of help from the elders. No one understands how I dont have broken bones. Except we do, because we know that God is looking out for us. And I can testify that that is 100% true.
We set up a Geneology Club with the local library and it is going to be legit. Like, advertised in newspapers and all. We are super excited! Turning the hearts of the children to the fathers! Thanks Malachi and Elijah!
Oh! The Temple was wonderful! Absolutely wonderful. There is a tangible peace there that I wish I could have 24/7. I am jealous of all those of you who live so close to a temple and can go whenever you want. Take advantage of it! And pray that they build on in Green Bay next! Actually, pray for us missionaries in Wisconsin because Elder Clarkson from the 70 told us that it will take 4 stakes in Madison or Green Bay to get a temple in Wisconsin. So. We are working on it.
We officially know just about every homeless person in Janesville. We teach a few of them and one of them has a baptism date and then they talk to their friends and we see them all the time and its heartbreaking to see but fun to be friends with them.
Oh! And we caught and cuddled a baby squirrel!
I love you all!
"There may be some among you who feel darkness encroaching upon you. You may feel burdened by worry, fear, or doubt. To you and all of us, I repeat a wonderful and certain truth:
GODS LIGHT IS REAL.
It is availbale to all! It gives life to all thing. Its has power to softeen the sting of the deepest wound. It can be a healing balm for the loneliness and sickness of our souls. In the furrows of despair, it can plant seeds of a brighter hope. It can illuminate the path before us and lead us through the darkest night in to the promise of a new dawn." - Pres Uchtdorf
